We stopped along the way to use our senses to help us write about the many different things that we were observing. We were paying special attention to the effects that the recent weather has had on our environment in Fairfax. We noticed the bubbling river, high from recent rains, the small animals beginning to come out of hiding from the cold and the tiny buds starting to emerge on several trees.
When we returned to class we began to think of ways to create shape poems about weather. We read the book Doodle Dandies: Poems that Take Shape to get inspiration for our own shape poems.
What a terrific afternoon of science, writing and exercise as a class!

My favorite memory of the school year was when we went to echo because we got to see so many coo things.
