Seasons Greetings

The students have recently been introduced to Historical Fiction and they are all reading a book in this genre in their reading groups. The books all take place in Vermont during different time periods, which ties in nicely with our social studies unit on Vermont history. In math, we are finishing up Unit Three; which focused on fractions and division. During the month of December, Ms. Fitzgerald and I have also been discussing problem solving strategies with the kids. In writing, we started talking about personal narratives. The focus of our narratives is on traditions in our families. The students have chosen a small moment from a tradition to create a narrative piece from. I look forward to learning more about all of the students as they paint a picture of their lives through their writing.

There are a few things about the holidays that I wanted to bring to your attention. The first is that we will be having a Winter Celebration on Tuesday December 22nd in the afternoon at 1:50 - 2:20. You are more than welcome to join the festivities. If you would like to contribute drinks or snacks please indicate on the bottom of this letter what it is you would like to bring by Friday December 18th. I will be supplying the paper goods.

On Thursday December 17th the Abbey group is hosting their holiday meal. We will be eating lunch as a class in the room on Thursday for those that are interested. Lunch will begin at 11:40.

The students will be partaking in a “Secret Santa”. We will be picking names on Tuesday and will be going over the criteria in class, but I am going to emphasize that nobody should be going out and spending money. Everything should be homemade. We will be brainstorming a list of ideas within the classroom of things that they can do for their “Secret Santa”. We will be revealing our secret during our Holiday Party.
