Flynn Theater Workshop

Last week the fourth grade team headed to Burlington to go to the ECHO center and the matinee performance of Most Valuable Player: The Story of Jackie Robinson. In preparation for the performance we had the opportunity to have Kim Jordan of the Flynn Theater's Education Program come and run an afternoon workshop in each of the fourth grade classrooms.

Ms. Jordan engaged the students in several different activities that got them thinking like actors. They learned to embody the different characters by thinking about their motivations, body language, and context of the subject matter. The students were able to practice these theater techniques and even got to act out a scene in the play in small groups.

As a class we also read several stories about Mr. Robinson to build our schema for the performance. This preparation lead to a rich experience at the theater that the class was able to reflect on with deep understanding and appreciation.

We used the Flip Camera to record some of our work with Ms. Jordan. You can view our video below. This experience was so valuable and we hope to have the opportunity to work with Ms. Jordan again in the future.
