Trip to Maple Sugar Outlet

On March 3rd the fourth grade team went to the Maple Sugar Outlet in Jeffersonville. While we were there we learned a lot about the maple sugaring process and the sugaring business.

I learned that if you blow in a tap hole it will get bacteria in it and it won't produce sap. Graem

I learned that you have to have a lot of sap to make maple candy. Sydney

I learned that it takes 60 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. Curtis

I learned that they used wooden buckets to collect sap but they got moldy and rotten, so they started using steel. Now they use plastic tubing. Brennan

I learned that Vermont is the second largest sap producer in the world. Quebec is the first. Jacob

I learned they have to boil the sap until it reaches 219 degrees. Abigail

I learned that to make maple syrup candy you need to take out a lot of water from the maple syrup. Koben
