On Friday we read a beautiful story about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is called My Brother Martin and was written by Martin's big sister Christine King Ferris. The story told of Martin's childhood and his amazing dream to "turn the world upside down." The book was full of beautiful illustrations and rich examples of figurative language which we have been learning about.
For a writing connection we thought about our own dreams for ourselves or for the world that we would like to accomplish. We then wrote about that dream and about what challenges we might face and what steps we would take to make our dream become a reality. The students had very thoughtful responses and from their writing it is obvious that the young people in this class are full big ambitions for themselves and our world much like Dr. King.
